Family Activities for Half Term in London – Scandinavian Style

Half Term is only a couple of weeks away and we’ve gathered a few ideas on activities, Scandinavian Style of course!

Visit your nearest London City Farm
Bring the countryside to the city! Head down to one of London’s city farms and say hello to the animals and experience a slice of rural life without having to leave London.
As well as farmyard animals, many city farms offer gardens, children’s play areas and a farm shop where you can pick up fresh farm produce.

Writing Hut talks at the Roald Dahl Museum

Roald Dahl wrote all of his children’s stories in a writing hut build in his garden. Now this is your chance! For all ages: head to our replica of Roald Dahl’s Writing Hut in the Story Centre to learn about Roald Dahl’s writing routine and some of the quirky objects he kept near his special writing chair. The event is free for Museum visitors.
When: Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 October, 11am, 1pm and 3pm each day.

Swedish Fika in the UK at Nordic Bakery London

Fika is a Swedish word that means to have a coffee and cake break. Why not take the family and go fika during half term? Nordic Bakery is a cozy Scandinavian-style café right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of London. Try their open rye bread sandwiches, hearty cinnamon buns and freshly baked cakes, served with coffee or hot chocolate! PS Did you know that Sweden has a National Cinnamon Bun day?

Family fun i fresh air, Country Walk near London
Dress practical with thermals and waterproofs. Bring packed lunch and a hot drink and take your family out for a day in fresh air and beautiful surroundings.
There are a variety of walks to choose from. We recommend the Time Out Book of Country Walks Volume 1 containing 53 walks near London.
When: The Countryside is open all days!

Discover the Northern Light through photography Halsnøy Tales

The magic of the Northern lights, the marks of the rain, the wind constantly battering the land. This is what fine art photographer Brijesh Patel recalls from his time as an artist in residence at the Halsnøy island in Norway, 2011. Lost in the vast fjords of southern Norway, the tiny island of Halsnoy is crisscrossed by slim roads and dirt tracks. The show is part of the East London Photo Month festival.

Outdoor fun with Ice Skating in London at the Natural History Museum

The stunning Natural History Museum provides the backdrop for this 1,000-metre-square outdoor ice rink, featuring a Christmas tree at its centre, and a smaller separate rink for young children. With a rinkside fairground carousel, a balcony café bar serving hot chocolate and the surrounding trees decked with thousands of fairy lights this is a unique festive family night out.

Most of all, leave a day or two without any planned activity. It’s good for the children to have some down time as well and perhaps only play in and around the house and at the playground nearby.
