Leading Danish stylist Quinee Balsov, the house-stylist of CPH kids August 2010, offers 5 tips on children’s fashion this autumn

1. Mix the two trends
The two trends “Color Play” and “Nature” can easily be mixed – but do it in moderation: for instance, a striped and colorful hat with a natural-colored set of clothes.

2. Give the outfit edge
Create contrasts and edge by combining the fine, romantic dress with a pair of rough, woolen stockings. Or combine striped trousers with a spotted blouse.

3. Let go of the reins and let the kids choose for themselves
With advantage, you can let your child choose the outfit themselves. Parents are often positively surprised by their kids’ sense of style. And particularly this fall, gaily-colored elements and ideas are super trendy.

4. Let kids be kids
Luckily, in Denmark we understand that first and foremost, kids’ clothing has to be practical and comfortable. Leave it that way: The clothes must fit the everyday life of the child – not the other way around.

5. Think sustainably
No matter whether you or your child goes for “Color Play” or “Nature”, it pays to think about sustainability. Second hand clothes is trendy – also for kids. And when you buy new, then go for high quality that can be passed on. It serves both the style and the environment.

Two danish designers Annika Lofqvist and Lena Berg are behind the new Scandinavian brand Zilly Banana Kids wear for children aged 3-10.
Each collection is a limited edition and the clothes are handmade in Europe. Zilly Banana designes comfortable clothes in high quality with graphic prints and colorful applique in a naive expression mixed with happy buttons and fun seams that all together gives Zilly Banana a rather quirky yet urban style for young trendsetters.

Zilly Banana received a warm welcome at the International children’s trade show in Amsterdam, Kleine Fabriek, in July 2010. AW2010 is their second collection on the market, only available to order online at www.zillybanana.com

The most delightful of prints, this breathtaking deer in a enchanted forest, from danish Molo Kids will tempt the girls this autumn, made in soft cotton in a comfortable cut and covered with gorgeous deers and flowers all the way around.
This enchanted forest print will probably make us think of Disney’s Bambi but truth is that this theme has a long history, being described in some of the oldest folklores around the world.

Nordic Kids think this is the ultimate in dainty woodland chic! We think the deer print is stunning and that the colours are perfect for the coming autumn and winter season.

Fair trade organic cotton, Liberty prints and the nostalgic look we adore.
Poppy Rose’s AW 10 collection is on it’s way, and we are looking forward to it!

Visiting the largest trade fair for children’s clothing in the UK, Bubble, was fun and slightly hectic as it should be with lots of exhibitors showcasing their coming Autumn Winter collections. I’ve used a few days now to let it all sink in, and I would love to share what I found to be the highlights with you.

I had a chance to inspect the shoes from PomPom. I had previously seen them online and read all about their philosophy about creating high quality children shoes that doesn’t cost a fortune. Super soft leather and lovely finish confirmed my expectation and I can’t understand otherwise than that we’ll be seeing a lot more of this Danish newcomer on the British market.

I had high expectations for MeMini’s collection in advance and was very happy with what I saw. We can look forward to a luxurious and subtle AW collection, and the agent could happily confirm that there had been a great response on it as well.

Lille Barn was another pleasant, and to me a new, acquaintance. The Norwegian designer was present at the fair with her eco friendly collection very much inspired by Norwegian knitting traditions. Lille Barn clothing is for children aged 0 – 6 years. Shame as Beatrice would have loved it. Améllie on the other hand can look forward to some very lovely pieces this coming autumn.
Most charming stand I visited must have been Tiny Doe from Norway. The design team could proudly present a small but very innovative collection based on a animal, this time a rabbit. And I loved their accessories. As newcomers they told me they felt warmly welcomed by both press and visitors at the fair.
The best find must however be Danish Drappa Dot. With a unusual combination of fabrics, colours and patterns the collection was very Bohemian Chic. Feminine, organic and simply gorgeous.

There was a lot of bright colours and bold prints as well, but what I found very new and intriguing was Danefaes prints; A fox and a grizzly bear captured my attention, both inspired by Denmark’s most legendary sagas.
