To the beach!

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Let’s face it; kids love the beach! The combination of sand and water will make sure that whatever they are wearing will stand its test. Luckily it’s not hard to find children’s swimsuits up to the challenge, and there are many great swimwear options available this season.

Swimwear should be well fitted, comfortable and something they’ll enjoy wearing. Children’s swimsuits available are equally as cool as those available for grown ups – in fact, some of them should be sold in larger sizes! The bold printed swim trunks for boys are paired with colourful tees are ideal beach wear. A great range of bucket sunhats, towelling robes and hooded cotton cover up’s provide essential sun protection.
Little girls have plenty of choice when it comes to their summer swimwear. Lots of one-piece swimsuits with cute ruffled skirts, tankinis and two-piece suits are always popular. Some of the new funky stuff for girls is clearly retro inspired, some is more sweet and colourful. Colored flip flops adorned with fish, flowers and shells are great for protecting little feet from hot sand.

Practicality has also been integrated into children’s swimsuits which can make life that little bit easier. Swimsuits with built in flotation devices can help kids with those first phases of learning to swim, perfect for a toddler. For the youngest ones choose a swim nappy and wear it with a t-shirt, sunhat and armbands.

UV sun protection swimwear like UV sunhats, UV swim shirts, shorts, and swimming costumes for children, toddlers and babies are increasingly popular. UV block swimwear save your children’s skin and saves you from worrying too much as it offers complete sun protection and are perfect for swimming and snorkeling and other water based activities.
Most importantly kids should wear sun screen that provides high factor with a broad spectrum protection against both UVB and UVA rays whilst playing in the sun. Skin burn has never been in fashion!

Fingers crossed for a sunny and warm summer!

New brand alert: Ewa i Walla

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

New brand, or at least to me(!) Ewa i Walla creates beautiful pieces for girls age 2 – 8 years, and for their fashionable mums.
Swedish label Ewa i Walla was founded back in 1990, and presents two new collections every year. Their first children collection was launched AW09.
The collection has a sense nostalgia and is a unusual mix of countryside romance and haute couture and it’s made by natural fabrics like cotton, linen, silk and wool.

Getting dressed should not be a matter-of-fact, it should not be a task accomplished in a whisper of time and with as little thought involved as possible. Even from a young age, children have temperaments that are distinctly theirs. Why not let their creativity be shown through their clothing!!

This is the perfect label to look into if you are having a very special occasion coming up or just simply want to stand out from the crowd.

One thing is for sure, this dress (in picture) will turn heads!

Birthday party planning in progress

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Amélie will soon be turning 5 years old. As she early on has expressed a wish to celebrate her big day with all her best friends, her family, all her other friends, class mates and the rest of the world there has been a few discussions. But in the end we have managed to narrow the list down to a few friends and class mates.
With the guest list ready the birthday party planning can start. I was thinking of going for the easy (if there is such a thing in this matter) option with a rented hall and a professional entertainer that ensures that the children will be entertained from the beginning to the end. It works, and it is easy. All you have to do is to show up with party food and gift bags.
But at the same time it’s hard to let go of the childhood dream birthday party. With party games, hotdogs (yes, that’s party food for children in Norway), strawberry jelly and vanilla sauce for dessert. And the birthday cake! Homemade cream cake decorated with strawberries, blueberries and candles. The venue would be decorated with balloons and fresh flowers and Norwegian table flags.

While dreaming away I’m surfing the net for themed princess party decoration whilst deciding on Mr.Brilliant or Mr.Fantastic.

And we are settling with the leftovers!

Todays catch from Sweden.

Shopping tips for launches and sale: Walk inside the store. Find the nearest shopping assistant, and ask for directions to desired items. Quickly scan through whats left. Move quickly to the fitting room, and see what’s left there. Then turn towards the till and ask if they have anything left there. Hold on to whatever you are unsure about until you are sure. If you leave anything behind it might be gone within the next second.
Yes, this is mad. But today I retrieved both the dress and a few items for myself as well from SR pour H&M following these simple steps. I read it online somewhere earlier today, and wanted to see if it worked. And after experiencing it I wanted to share it with you!

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M sold out?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Sonia Rykiel’s knitwear collaboration with fast-fashion behemoth H&M has proved to be another success for H&M. Web shops in Scandinavia almost crashed at 10am today, when the sought after designer items were launched, and within the next hour all the children’s wear was gone.
I’ve had my eyes on the stripy set to the left, but there is probably not much hope left to retrieve it.
Thinking about it I’ve actually never been able to retrieve any of the design launches at H&M. I’m to lazy. Probably not eager enough.

Anyway. Hope you got what you wanted before it was all gone!
