The furniture shop your knight or princess would love

Rikke Baek and Anette Schack founded the Danish company Fairytale Design in 2003 with the aim of creating imaginative furniture for children 0-8y. Choose between 6 different children’s furniture lines; Soldier, Knight, Pirates, Prince Little, Princess, Ballerina, Lady and Puppy.
Shown below is Ballerina and Soldier.
All furniture, textiles and accessories are made with environmental care. Read more about fair trade and slow fashion here.

With lovely illustrations, Flash Player and music the web page www.fairytaledesign.dk would be fun for your child to visit as well.
In fact I think they would love shopping for furniture when they have the opportunity to catch butterflies at the same time!

Bundgaard shoes goes organic

During Copenhagen Fashion Week this August at CIFF Danish shoe brand Bundgaard launched a collection of organic children’s footwear, following the trend with all things organic.

It’s the British designer Penny Leese that’s behind the collection. Leeses lives and works in Denmark and she has created her first shoe collection within the brand’s philosophy of creating comfortable footwear that works with the natural development of children’s feet.

The organic collection offers two styles of sandal, three styles of shoe and one style of slippers, all available in red, brown and blue and will be in stores from spring 2011.

Bundgaard is own by one of the oldest and largest shoe manufacturer in Denmark, Sanita Footwear and are well known in Scandinavia for creating high quality footwear for children (similar quality as Bisgaard and Angulus).

We have had Bundgaard sandals for the girls and we were very happy with them. Would love to try out the organic collection too!

The Toddler Cutlery

The danish designer Josefine Bentzen from the Copenhagen based design company Fabrikators is behind the new designed cutlery series for children, Toddler Table Cutlery.

The shape of the award winning cutlery is based on the particular way an infant grasps objects, thus making it easier for the child to control.
- And at the same time not looking out of place on a finely laid table.

The set comes with a knife, fork and spoon in Blue, Lime, Orange or Raspberry. The three-piece sets can be used for babies from six months onwards. If only my girls were younger, I’d certainly would have bought a couple of these.

Available for £34.99 at littlepumpkin.co.uk

In need of a knitting Granny?

I don’t know about you but my mum and my mother in law are both very active women still working full time and with very little spare time. We have been lucky enough to receive a few knitted items, but we can’t expect new sweaters for every Christmas.
The Danes are known for being innovative and entrepreneurial. Karen Leth and Nina Brandi is the creative and hard working ladies behind the brand Mormor (The Granny). They have gathered several knitting grannies in Denmark under one brand.
All garments are delivered with a signed note, from the granny who knitted the piece, especially for your child. If you can’t find what you are looking for on their site mormor.nu they will be happy to receive any requests too.

Nina Brandi explains about Mormor

I think this is a fantastic concept! At last unused resources that exists in our community has been spotted. I have with the help from my mother started this group of grannies, and it has been a pleasure to experience all their knitting knowledge (some started knitting as young as 5 years old) and also to receive such a grateful and positive response from these lovely ladies. Secondly it’s a pleasure to be able to offer products to children that are made after the Fair Trade principle and with environmental care.

Last week, at the children’s fashion fair in Copenhagen MorMor had their own stand -with a knitting Granny in a rocking chair of course!

Mormor also support “A race against breast cancer” and a Fair Trade project in Bolivia.
