Little A’s best pancake recipe

Little A was home from school last week, with a cold. When she wasn’t busy cuddling up in the sofa with a book she was making her favourite dish, yummy vanilla pancakes. It’s lovely to see how much fun she had in the kitchen! And the self confidence they gain with it -When serving the yummy lunch she proudly proclaimed she wanted to write a cook book! TBC…

Little A’s best pancake recipe
Pancakes is probably my best recipe and I can more or less make them on my own.

Ingredients
3 eggs
3/4 pint of milk
1 cup of plain flour
1 pinch of salt
2 teaspoons Vanilla Sugar
50 g melted butter

Method
Firstly -wash your hands and put on a apron. I also need a small chair to stand on the kitchen.
1. You’ll need someone grown up to help you melting the butter and frying the pancakes.
2. Mix the eggs, poor in the milk and stir.
3. Add flour, salt and vanilla sugar, stir well.
4. Add melted butter.
5. Fry in butter, until golden on each side.

Enjoy warm with sugar, home made strawberry jam or why not my favourite, vanilla ice cream and blueberry jam!

Kids Fashion Week in Oslo with SS12 previews

Oslo Fashion week exhibits children’s wear twice a year. The main exhibition attracts a lot of buyers, but with an increasing number of exhibitors over the recent years more and more designer choose to launch their collections elsewhere.
Little Scandinavian visited MCH Agenturer that represent labels like Serendipity, Lilleba, Pale Cloud, Esencia and Lucky Boy Sunday.
In collaboration with a few other designers and agents they had their pop-up-showroom during Oslo fashion week in a gorgeous villa centrally located near the west end. We where served coffee upon arrival and could in peace and quiet look through the coming Spring Summer 2012 collections whilst chatting to the ever so lovely and helpful agent.
What we thought: Esencia SS12 is more extensive and beautiful than ever. We particularly loved the soft cotton knit, the summer dresses and shirts. The organic babywear is absolutely lovely too. Lilleba continue with high quality and eco friendly essentials. New for SS12 is the prints based on Norwegian traditions and heritage. We especially liked the one suit in old sea maps print. Really cool! And Pale Cloud for SS12 can be described with only one word; Divine. We simply can’t get over the gorgeous designer clothes for children. The price is on the high end but that is clearly reflected in the luxurious fabrics used and the time spent on attention to details. Like the smock cloud pattern. We adore! And thank you, Monica. We look forward to seeing you again. x

How to make the Christmas shopping enjoyable

Does Christmas shopping really have to be manic and stressful? Or could you possibly turn it into an enjoyable event?

I think the most important thing is to be prepared. What are you buying? Brew yourself a big cup of tea and make a list in the evening. Then find out where you can get what you need. Do as much as possible of your shopping online -you can do it when it suits you and you get it delivered to your door. Then check what’s left on your list and find out when you’ll be able to visit the different shops. Try to visit your local independent shop not only to support the community but they offer often a far more personal and relaxed shopping experience. And they are often situated next to a local deli or cafe where you can grab a bite.
And last but not least: Don’t try to do too many chores in one go and don’t bring the kids. You’ll be far more efficient on your own!

I would have loved doing my Christmas shopping in a shop like Bansull in Drammen if I were in Norway. Pictures from their lovely shop shows comfortable organic wear from Lilleba, super cute felt shoes from Clemente Copenhagen and handmade knitted gloves.
They’ve got so many nice things that I think I wouldn’t only found most things on my list but also truly enjoyed the shopping experience.

What is your favourite local shop you’ll be visiting for your Christmas shopping? Please share and write a comment!

Lilleba – our first choice

This utterly luxurious fabrics combined with a design clearly inspired by Scandinavian heritage and traditions makes Lilleba a first choice for underwear and nightwear.

Pure underwear -pure joy

Wear bamboo and soy – wear the absolute best. Lilleba offers underwear for children that has the ultimate in design, comfort, and look.

Clothes worn against the skin should be soft, with a minimal amount of seams and free from itching tags. The Norwegian design team Silje Sivertsen and Nina Eikerol combine Nordic traditions and a clear cut look with the most modern qualities. They also consider a safe production of clothes under conditions favourable to people as well as the environment.
This underwear is especially recommended for children with sensitive skin or eczema. As for soy, besides being soft as cashmere, it is a vegetable protein fiber with qualities similar to those of wool. It is also UV protective 50+. The fabrics do not contain formaldehyde, which can cause both allergy and cancer.

Amélie and Beatrice has a underwear set each from Lilleba consisting of a spaghetti strap vest and matching briefs. And they are so excited about how soft it is, how warm and dry they feel and the cut and style -we simply have to get hold of more! It’s not the cheapest -but well worth it.
I’ll definitely be considering Lilleba’s nightwear collection while I’m at it. And maybe something for mummy too?!?

Slow Fashion for now and the future

Fast speed in fashion is a defining characteristic of today’s textile and clothing industry where it’s possible to turn a sample or design sketch into a finished product in as little as 12 days. And it’s fast consumption, with consumers buying more than what they need.

Fast fashion has been dominating the market for more than a decade, seducing customers by cheap versions of styles that had graced the catwalks of Milan and Paris weeks previously. But awareness is spreading and with customers that barely have recovered from the credit crunch, clothes selling at disposable prices are losing their appeal! The new must-haves are ‘made to last’ or, better still, ‘made in Europe.’

The concept of Slow Fashion is linked to the Slow Food Movement. Founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1986, (we discovered it on holiday in Italy in 2002).
Slow fashion is about designing, producing, consuming and living better. Slow fashion is not time-based but quality-based. Slow is not the opposite of fast but rather a different approach in which designers, buyers, retailers and consumers are more aware of the impacts of products on workers, communities and ecosystems.

Scandinavian children’s fashion is very much about Slow Fashion. The garments are often trans-seasonal with high quality that are made to be kept and produced in organic and fair trade materials.
The new vision is that pleasure and fashion is strongly linked with awareness and responsibility.

“Slow fashion is a glimpse of a different – and more sustainable – future for the textile and clothing sector and an opportunity for business to be done in a way that respects workers, environment and consumers in equal measure. Such a future is but a garment away.”

Kate Fletcher, eco textiles consultant and author.
