Highlights of Bubble London

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Visiting the largest trade fair for children’s clothing in the UK, Bubble, was fun and slightly hectic as it should be with lots of exhibitors showcasing their coming Autumn Winter collections. I’ve used a few days now to let it all sink in, and I would love to share what I found to be the highlights with you.

I had a chance to inspect the shoes from PomPom. I had previously seen them online and read all about their philosophy about creating high quality children shoes that doesn’t cost a fortune. Super soft leather and lovely finish confirmed my expectation and I can’t understand otherwise than that we’ll be seeing a lot more of this Danish newcomer on the British market.

I had high expectations for MeMini’s collection in advance and was very happy with what I saw. We can look forward to a luxurious and subtle AW collection, and the agent could happily confirm that there had been a great response on it as well.

Lille Barn was another pleasant, and to me a new, acquaintance. The Norwegian designer was present at the fair with her eco friendly collection very much inspired by Norwegian knitting traditions. Lille Barn clothing is for children aged 0 – 6 years. Shame as Beatrice would have loved it. Améllie on the other hand can look forward to some very lovely pieces this coming autumn.
Most charming stand I visited must have been Tiny Doe from Norway. The design team could proudly present a small but very innovative collection based on a animal, this time a rabbit. And I loved their accessories. As newcomers they told me they felt warmly welcomed by both press and visitors at the fair.
The best find must however be Danish Drappa Dot. With a unusual combination of fabrics, colours and patterns the collection was very Bohemian Chic. Feminine, organic and simply gorgeous.

There was a lot of bright colours and bold prints as well, but what I found very new and intriguing was Danefaes prints; A fox and a grizzly bear captured my attention, both inspired by Denmark’s most legendary sagas.

The playsuit

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

A playsuit is by definition a play outfit usually consisting of shorts and a blouse, sometimes in one piece, that is often worn by children.
There were several designers creating beautiful playsuits last year. And a quick look at the spring summer collection 2010 reveals that the playsuit is here to stay, at least for now.
I can’t really make up my mind which one I’ll choose for Beatrice and Amélie. But I’ll for definitivt consider both playsuits from MeMini and Petit by Sofie Schnoor.

Dress your baby and toddler the Scandinavian way this winter

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

MeMini girls Snowsuit It’s already December, and by now most Scandinavian babies and toddlers, in fact most children up to school age will be dressed in a snowsuit when outdoors. There are some great snowsuits on the market, and every year they are thoroughly tested for water resistance, durability etc for parents that want to be sure that their little one can stay warm and dry when playing outisde.
In Norway the children would wear wool tights, socks and top , and wool or fleece one suit and a waterproof rain set on top. Wool products warm and insulate children’s bodies in both cold and wet weather. Wool also regulates body heat, keeping children comfortable on milder days. Scandinavian children usually change from rain sets to snowsuit when the temperature drops down to a few plus degrees or less.
There are a lot of Scandinavian snowsuits on the market. Didriksons, Fransa, Hollys, Hummel, Katvig, Lego, Mini a Ture, Minymo, Molo, Name It, Småfolk, Ticket To Heaven, Ver de Terre and Wheat to mention some.
Of all the Scandinavian brands I think Ticket to Heaven is very nice. But Wheat has some very nice ones as well. Katvig and Molo has a bit more trendy retro look. In other words something for every one’s taste and need.
A colder climate requires warmer clothes. However it can be quite cold in the UK as well. And a few british shops do stock proper snowsuits.Nordic Kids stock a few, from Molo and from Mini Rodini. Rose and Robin stock snowsuits from Cupcake and Molo.
Viking Kids stock some very warm snowsuits from Didriksons and Isbjorns of Sweden. This is probably the snowsuits you would consider if you are going to visit Lapland this Christmas. :)
