Little Scandinavian

As one of the former head designers at well known label Mini A Ture danish designer Marlene Anine Holmboe had all the expertise and experience to start her own brand, Marmar Copenhagen, summer 2008.
With a goal to achieve toned down elegance for children, where romantic appearance and sharp graphic prints are the contrasts the label strives to offer a window into a world of fashion for little people that creates its own subtle style statement.



With detailing restricted to only the most important elements and muted colour tones, it can almost come as a surprise to find an eye-catching twist in their collection. MarMar Copenhagen is contrasting mix of contemporary functionalism and classic vintage.

The most delightful of prints, this breathtaking deer in a enchanted forest, from danish Molo Kids will tempt the girls this autumn, made in soft cotton in a comfortable cut and covered with gorgeous deers and flowers all the way around.
This enchanted forest print will probably make us think of Disney’s Bambi but truth is that this theme has a long history, being described in some of the oldest folklores around the world.

We have mentioned favourite children’s furniture brand Leka Sweden and their well known Trojan Horse before.
The Trojan Horse was designed as early as in 1962 in Sweden and has recently been redesigned with rubber wheels etc. This fun toy can be a rocking horse, a stool and storage for all those little toys. Brilliant design and solid painted wood, available in several bright colours.

The Copenhagen based company Urban Elk presented their first collection in autumn 2006, and is now one of the fastest growing children clothing companies in Denmark. The design is inspired by Scandinavian tradition of simplicity and combined with high quality. Children aged 0-8 year can enjoy clothes that are comfortable to wear with prints that appeal to them.

I think we just have to face it, the selection of clothing for boys is not as great as the selection for girls. It has become a lot better, but still we can get tired of cargo pants and stripy and printed tees. It’s hard to find boys clothing that really stands out.
The Scandinavian designers are really striving to do something with that, by using the highest quality fabrics (and of course organic cotton where possible and Fairtrade) with a lot of attention to details. They take pride in making clothes allowing children to be children. The clothes are fun and playful yet functional and comfortable, something active boys knows to appreciate.

Moose T long sleeve top from Mini A Ture is a good example of what cool, trendy tops should look like for boys. A cut out shape of a grey moose’s head on a vibrant blue background to the right of the tee, available from Nest. Oh! And did i mention it’s on sale for only £11?

Elodie Details was formed in Sweden in 2005 aiming their designs at babies and toddlers who are strong characters, who needs accessorise to match their true individuality.
The brand has become hughley popular in Scandinavia, and have only recently been launched in UK.

They are available at Nordic Kids in a variety of colours and in 3 sizes; 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-24 months. And for only £14.99 they would make a great Christmas present for any funky little baby.

I was just browsing through Nordic Kids online shop, and found this lovely tracksuit for Amélie.

The tracksuit features extra long ribbed arms and legs which rumple up for a small fit and then stretch out to stay fitting as your little one grows. Choose your child’s current size and it will fit through up to another three sizes. Made in soft, weighty organic terry cotton with a full zip, cozy hood and hand pockets. The only problem is persuading them to take it off at dinner.
It comes in size 1 – 2 years, 2 – 3 years and 5 – 6 years. And £42.99 is not too bad if it’s lasting for up to three years!
