Online shop with soul and atmosphere

Lille Figaro is one of our favourite shops with lot’s of chic fashion and design. The founder of Lille Figaro Rikke lives in Denmark with her husband and three children, Frederikke Lucie 6 years, Karl Gustav 4 years and Alberte Lucie 1 ½ year.

Little Scandinavian met up with Rikke to chat about fashion, design, online shopping and motherhood.

Tell us a little bit about Lille Figaro -what is your inspiration?
After becoming a mother myself I’ve been a frequent user of online shopping as time is limited compared to the “before children life”. But somehow online shopping didn’t give me the same experience as in store, there was something missing -like soul, atmosphere and the actual good feeling you get from shopping in a physical store. That’s what inspired me to wanting to create an online shop with not only a great selection of designer clothes and lifestyle products but also a shop with identity with it’s own soul and atmosphere. I want the customers to feel welcomed and it should be a exciting experience to shop in Lille Figaro -although it’s online. Lille Figaro is a dream of creating my own concept store that now finally has come true.

How do you select the brands and styles? What is important to you when choosing what to stock?
The brands and styles that are in the shop are chosen with special care. I choose with my heart and you’ll find nothing in the shop I would not buy myself. Lille Figaro is the best choice for the fashionable, discerning and not least busy mum or dad who can find a lot of delicious hand-picked items for their children in one single store. We also wanted to share the true modern Scandinavian lifestyle with offering more than children’s fashion, we recommend checking out what’s on offer under our category Goodies for Mum with everything from gorgeous printed jumpsuits, beautiful beaded bags and jewelery to organic skincare for you and your child and our handpicked interior accessories.

Do you want to share your favourite picks from the Spring Summer 2011 collection with us?
For the girls I simply love the amazing ITI tunic dress with contrast fringes by Petitbo, the beautiful Havana tutu dress in creme by Wovenplay and the matching feather hairband also by Wovenplay. Another favourite is the clean and simple cherry t-shirt dress by Bobo Choses that can be worn in so many ways. A lot of the clothes are unisex and can be worn by either girls or boys. But in particular for the boys my favourites must be for the baby boy the sleeveless baby onepiece with sailboat print by Bobo Choses, so simple and I love the colour. Another great item is the super soft and cool Beetle tee by Soft Gallery, the loose fit stripy shorts in dirty white and black also by Soft Gallery is another must have this summer for the boys, and the dark green parka by Popupshop will take your little one trough rainy and windy days and long into the autumn.

Why organic cotton?

Organic cotton has been available for several years, although the latest years gotten so popular by consumers that it could even be found on the high street. Organic cotton was one of the main trends in 2009 and has continued it’s success in 2010 and 2011. We think it’s here to stay.
So whats the deal? Cotton is a soft fibre that grows around the seeds of the cotton plant. In the production of organic cotton no chemicals are used and it is therefore more gentle for the environment than the ordinary cotton production and the result is a smoother quality. Kind to the environment and kind to you. And quite chic too. Have a look at the few examples shown here, organics by Mini Rodini, Geggamoja, Popupshop, Shampoodle and let me know what you think.

Trend watch: Black and white

Another strong fashion trend this current season is black and white, both for children’s clothes, furniture and toys.
Black has been a favourite this winter and it seems to transfer into spring and even summer, mixed with white.
Finger in the nose, How to Kiss a Frog, Little Red Stuga, Mini Rodini, Normann Copenhagen, BangBang Copenhagen, Popupshop, Soft Gallery, and Zilly Banana are a few brands that have embraced the monochrome style in a fun way.

Well, here’s the coming collection for autumn winter 2011. Popupshop are true to their philosophy and eco friendly ethos. They impress by appearing to be anonymous but yet delivering the most understated children’s clothing without compromising or on quality or sustainability. So, what do you think? Welcome a new decade in children’s fashion and design

The wonderful Pirouette blog has a nice summary of the world of children’s fashion of the decade we are about to leave behind. They have interviewed a few key people from around the world within the children’s industry to give us their thoughts.

Jenny Dalton, Journalist (The independent) and e-store/magazine owner Little Big, UK says: “I think children should be able to reflect their own personalities in what they wear and be comfortable rather than ‘fashionable’. I really hate the marketing of children’s lines that are really just reduced versions of adult lines – no thought involved / no special attention given to kids.”

Brands that are mentioned for having original and great design are Swedish labels Popupshop, Mini Rodini, Playsam and Danish labels Lucky Boy Sunday and Soft Gallery and the Norwegian run US based fashion label Appaman.

Lindsay Hoyes, Event Director, Bubble London UK highlights the importance of slow fashion “Clothes to be treasured and handed down from this decade to the next”
