Scandinavian Christmas markets, Oslo

From end of November until the end of December Oslo is not only covered in white snow, the capital is also glittering and shining from all the Christmas lights and decoration several places in the city.

Oslo has several big and small markets and events all over the city the most famous being the festive and fun Christmas Market at City Hall Square.

We highly recommend our favourite Christmas market; The traditional and charming market at Norsk Folkemuseum (The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History), a fantastic Christmas experience for both adults and children.

The Christmas Fair is open the first two weekends in December, with many of the old buildings in the open-air museum decorated for Christmas according to the old Norwegian traditions. More than 100 sale stands throughout the museum grounds sell unique items such as handmade arts and crafts, decorations and ornaments, traditional foods and other holiday treats. There is children’s activities like Norwegian folk dance, Santa’s Workshop, pony riding and ice skating.

Scandinavian Christmas markets – Copenhagen

From mid November until the end of December Copenhagen is transformed into one big Christmas Market, consisting of several big and small markets and events all over the city. We highly recommend our favourite annual Christmas markets; The festive and fun Tivoli Copenhagen and the more traditional and charming market Nyhavn, both fantastic Christmas experience for both adults and children.

The shops have extended opening hours and with all the Christmas lights, decoration and music the Christmas shopping is turned into a relaxed and cheerful event. Enjoy some “æbleskiver” and “gløgg” while listing to live Christmas music from a nearby concert. Or enjoy a proper Christmas dinner in one of Copenhagen’s many awarded gourmet restaurants.

Little Scandinavian at the Scandinavia Show

Only a quick reminder; The Scandinavia show is on this weekend!
Indulge in the best of Nordic design, travel, fashion and food, Saturday or Sunday.

What we find so great about this show is that it gives you an insight in what Scandinavia has to offer, all under one roof at Olympia, London.

The picture shows the bean bag HappyCat by danish design company Roommate. HappyCat is a children’s beanbag with a new design expression. It can be used for sitting in, but is also designed for play and romping about. The HappyCat beanbag is a combined furniture and toy.
The HappyCat and Roommate will be part of the stand of Nordic Elements which is one of the many stands we look forward to visit.

Hope to see you there, but don’t worry if you can’t make it as the highlights will all be presented here!

Little Scandinavian goes on holiday

During half term the Scandinavian Mum, the Scandinavian Dad and their two Little Scandinavians are off on holiday. And the trip goes (of course!?) to Scandinavia!

We will be going to a lovely ski resort in Norway called Norefjell (North mountain). Norefjell with its more than 3.900 feet has a long history with tourism and down hill skiing, hosting the Winter Olympics in 1952. With continues development it’s today one of the most modern ski resorts in Norway.

The flight time from London to Oslo is about 2 hours. Then Norefjell is situated one hours car journey outside Oslo.
The resort we will be staying at has “ski in ski out”, great cross country slopes starting on your mountain lodge’s doorstep, there is an ice rink, there is SPA, outdoor jacuzzi and a gym for the adults and swimming pools for the children and there is a 52 feet tall indoor climbing wall. You can choose from several nice restaurants. The mountain lodge built only last year has all the facilities you would expect and is offering accommodation with a modern yet cozy interior with fire place etc. And what do you think the children are most excited about?
“Yeah! We get to sleep in a bunk bed!”
