Summer in Skandium

Looking to refresh your home after the big Spring clean or in search for the perfect wedding gift this Summer we recommend visiting Skandium in Marelybone. We visited Skandium last weekend in search for a wedding gift and had a browse through the store and enjoyed seeing all the design classics (in all prize ranges) in gorgeous daylight that they have managed to create in store.

The new Summer series from iittala was hard to resist. I was thinking of buying the mug, but when that’s entered your home I’m sure the rest is to follow shortly! The girls also loved the wooden animals by Kaj Bojesen from Rosendahl.
We ended up leaving with a very nicely wrapped wedding gift and a few items for ourselves too…

Black is the new red for any active toddler

There is so many gift guides out there but I had to share this as I think it is something that any active toddler would be very happy to receive from Santa!

Our beloved retro toys, now available in black! Who can resist a shiny Saab Roadster RideOn from Playsam? Its design is based on the very first Saab — Sixten Sason’s prototype 92001. Steering wheel made of wood and metal just like the old sports car steering wheels. Any aspiring racing driver will be over the moon! Available at Skandium £302.

And you can’t go wrong with Brio. This is the exact Tobbler Wobbler or Walk On I used to have as a child, only in red. And it was a daily business walking around with it, shipping toys from there to here, whilst feeling very safe making those very first steps. Available at Kidsen £34.99

Home from home at Skandium

This Sunday we decided to go shopping in the afternoon. We went to Marylebone, almost a little village within the central city of London. The high street is filled up with lots of individual shops, with everything from butcher, cheese and fishmonger, delis, to designer shops with children’s clothing, women lingerie and clothing, home and kitchenware and lots more.
We wanted to visit Skandium, a retailer of modern Scandinavian furniture, lighting, kitchenware, and glassware.

If you are into minimal but thoughtful Scandinavian design then you should pay this shop a visit. There is several things on my wish list that would be found in this shop as one thing is for certain, they do have a great selection. A bit pricey, but that’s probably to do with central and spacious location? If you have even a slight crush on the Scandinavian style, you will love Skandium.

I must admit I felt a bit homesick, standing in between shelves filled with gorgeous Nordic design. And as they are having a winter sale on as well with up to 70% off there was lots of temptations in store.

The girls wear happily playing with one of the classic Swedish Stiga Ice Hockey board games when I suddenly discovered the Okidoki Originals a colourful collection with one-off bears and friends.

Okidoki Originals bears are made of hand-dyed high quality wool, which is also used in their clothes and accessories. They are fully or partially jointed, some of them have wire inside arms. All have eyes of glass and are stuffed with wool, sometimes combined with glass pellets so they can stand by themselves. All handmade by the Swedish designer Kajsa Lindstrom. The price suggest that these bears should be kept for the best or probably live a life on the shelf as a collective item. But how cute are they? I do apologise for the poor quality of the pictures taken with my mobile phone, that doesn’t do these guys justice. Because there is something truly special about them. You could really sense their individual personality.

Next time you have the chance to visit Marylebone make sure you have enough time to pop into Skandium to have a look for yourself!
