We’ve had frosty mornings in London lately and both girls are now in itch free wool underwear underneath the School uniform, keeping them warm and dry throughout the day. We’ve mentioned Lilli & Leopold before, with regards to staying warm and dry with wool underwear. The girls wears the essential off white tank top, the long sleeved top and leggings; Little A has a beautiful dusty pink set in size 7y and Little B has a blue set in size 10y, slightly more grown up. Lilli & Leopold wool underwear are true to size and do not shrink much. The wool garments are produced under organic conditions and is so soft and luxurious that it can be worn next to the skin of even the most delicate babies and child as it’s naturally non allergenic and itch free, while at the same time giving a durable fabric which will endure numerous washes, by hand or on a wool program 30C using detergent designed for wool.
We think wool underwear is essential in any wardrobe especially when the temperature drops down to only a few plus degrees.

I couldn’t help thinking about wool today. It was drizzling on the way to school and properly pouring on my way back home. Luckily I was dressed in wool, so I stayed comfortable, warm and dry.
With weather like what we have now it’s nothing more comfortable than wool or wool mix underwear. For our children as well.
I spoke with a pregnant friend on the phone this morning. She was listing up her shopping list of baby gear that she want to have sorted before the little one arrives. We were discussing newborn clothes and she was asking questions like “How many baby grows do I need to start off with” etc. And my mind kept wandering off, again thinking off wool.
I think the following would be on my shopping list for any newborn; Wool underwear from Norwegian brand Lilli & Leopold. Soft organic merino wool. So comfortable with such a sweet expression. When only the best is good enough.

Clothes worn against the skin should be soft, with a minimal amount of seams and free from itching tags. The Norwegian design team Silje Sivertsen and Nina Eikerol combine Nordic traditions and a clear cut look with the most modern qualities. They also consider a safe production of clothes under conditions favourable to people as well as the environment.
This underwear is especially recommended for children with sensitive skin or eczema. As for soy, besides being soft as cashmere, it is a vegetable protein fiber with qualities similar to those of wool. It is also UV protective 50+. The fabrics do not contain formaldehyde, which can cause both allergy and cancer.

Amélie and Beatrice has a underwear set each from Lilleba consisting of a spaghetti strap vest and matching briefs. And they are so excited about how soft it is, how warm and dry they feel and the cut and style -we simply have to get hold of more! It’s not the cheapest -but well worth it.
I’ll definitely be considering Lilleba’s nightwear collection while I’m at it. And maybe something for mummy too?!?

Playing dressing up in mummy’s high heels, tottering around the bedroom is one thing. Or even wearing Cinderella shoes while playing the princess at home.

But actually going out in public in your own pair of heels when you’re barely three years old? And not only once or twice for that special occasion, but more on a everyday basis? And then your mother thinks you should, because you love them, and that they can’t be too damaging, since they where bought in a dance shop?

First I was thinking that this was some mad celebrity stunt, that wouldn’t affect us “ordinary people”. It was therefor with shock and horror that I recently discovered lots of sparkly high heeled tiny shoes in one of the high street accessorise shops.
And then you have the extremely funny, completely soft, shoes for babies 0-6 months, designed to look like high heels. What’s the point? What’s wrong with being a baby whilst you still can? An I do certainly not find these shoes hilarious! Only sad.

Then a supermarket giant launched padded bras for girls as young as seven. The “bust-booster” bra was sold alongside vests in the supermarket’s seven to eight-year-old range.
Another supermarket was also marketing black lacy underwear to nine-year-old girls.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, said children were being psychologically damaged by inappropriate “sexy” clothing and toys.
Christopher Cloke, head of child protection awareness at the NSPCC, said:

“This is part of a worrying trend of inappropriate clothing being marketed at young children.”

I find myself strongly agreeing with these statements. It’s a worrying trend.

Having two young girls myself I can’t help thinking what if Amélie should prance around in high heels and Beatrice wear a padded pink lace bra?! What’s wrong with letting children be the innocent children that they in fact are? I think it’s important for parents not being too naive on this topic, but on the contrary make a clear statement. Let our children be children.Picture shows lovely soft cotton underwear by danish designer Petit by Sofie Schnoor. Just an example that it’s easy to find lovely and comfortable underwear for your little girl.
